About Us

The Freedom School of Arts and Entrepreneurship (Freedom School A&E) is the nation’s first school dedicated to art and small business development for young boys. The Freedom School A&E is an institution that will provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and experiences for each student to become successful in life.

The Freedom School of Arts and Entrepreneurship offers students a rigorous STEAM and project-based curriculum for grades 5th – 8th. As a school for arts and entrepreneurship, Freedom School A&E has a diverse curriculum that aims to help students acquire knowledge and develop critical thinking and problem solving skills in order for them to be successful in and out of the classroom.

The primary objective of the Freedom School of Arts and Entrepreneurship is to prepare young boys to live their lives with an intellectual and creative freedom that will make them competitive in society. The students who graduate from Freedom School A&E will uphold the values of academic excellence, leadership, and community. We are committed to training the leaders of tomorrow, who will change their communities through innovation and tech.

Kasna Maat Ra

(CEO & Founder)

Kasna Maat Ra has been an educator for over fifteen years. He started his career at Roots Activity Learning Center, an African-centered private school in Washington, DC. His research and practice in Hip-Hop Integration is primarily based on the many contributions that the African Diaspora has made on western civilization. His aim is to provide students with the necessary skills and experiences to handle the many challenges that they will face both inside and outside of the classroom. This is accomplished by identifying strengths and weaknesses in academics and social behavior, while empowering their learning experiences by utilizing culturally responsive teaching through art, technology, and community development.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Grambling State University, majoring in business management and minoring in graphic design. He received his Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Corcoran College of Art and Design. His thesis entitled, “Hip Hop Integration: A Pedagogical Tool for Culturally Responsive Teaching”, utilizes the elements of Hip-Hop culture with arts integration, cooperative learning and the theory of multiple intelligences. Since incorporating Hip Hop Integration in his own classroom, students have gained a greater interest in learning and were able to retain pertinent information, such as: the fifty United States of America, physical characteristics of planets, vocabulary words, and various mathematical concepts. He also puts a strong emphasis on art and entrepreneurship through project based and expeditionary learning. He taught as a 5th grade teacher at the Leadership Academy at Como Elementary in Ft. Worth, TX. and a 7th grade Math teacher at Wedgwood Middle School. He also wrote several articles/lesson plans for NuSkool, Inc. as a Content Developer. He has received the Wanda Clay Education Award from Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship Incorporated and became a finalist for the Lockheed Martin Chair for Teaching Excellence in Elementary Math and/or Science award. Currently, he is an Instructional Specialist at the Leadership Academy at Forest Oak Middle School.

Charles Douglas, III
(Finance Committee, Chair)

Charles Douglas III graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical/Computer Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation in 2015, he began working for Oncor Electric Delivery in Fort Worth. In the two groups he worked at Oncor, most of his experience dealt with data analysis, process improvement, and project management. In his social life, Charles held the position of treasurer for 2 different organizations: NSBE DFW Chapter and IEEE PES Fort Worth. Charles also has played guitar since early childhood and currently is pursuing a part-time associate’s degree in Fashion Design, balancing out the heavily technical side of his education by honing his skills in highly creative and expressive avenues.

As treasurer of the Freedom School Board of Directors, Charles will continue to oversee the efficient use of all funds for the betterment of the students and ultimately for the betterment of our community.

Frankson Collins
(Curriculum Committee, Chair)

Frankson Collins is a  College Mathematics Professor with Prairie View A&M University. In this role, Frankson elevates students in all aspects of Education, including Studying Habits,Reduction of Test Anxiety and a plethora of other areas.

Frankson is no stranger to Education having spent 12+ years as a  teacher, tutor, and Basketball Coach where he  specialized in reaching the students that could not be reached by creating a productive social emotional relationship with the students to promote growth in academics.

Frankson is a qualified Mathematician and holds  a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Master's degree in Mathematics, Master's in Education Administration from Prairie View A&M University. He will begin his Ph.D program in Math Education at Texas State and is also the recipient of the 2021 Texas State Doctoral Merit Fellowships which is a prestigious award for doctoral students of the highest quality at Texas State University.
